Proudly providing NHS services

Create a new NHS referral

NHS GPs in England can refer children, aged between 0 and their 18th birthday, for an autism assessment with Paloma Health via Right to Choose.

We are commissioned by the NHS to provide children and young people’s autism assessments. With a GP referral, we aim to support parents and guardians to access a high quality autism assessment for their child within 6 weeks.

Are you a NHS GP and do you have any questions before making a referral? Please email paloma.health@nhs.net and we will come back to you within two working days.

Paloma Health and the NHS

Our Mission

Paloma Health’s mission is to increase patient access to high quality NHS care. We have contracts with Norfolk & Waveney and Devon Integrated Care Boards to offer children and young people’s autism assessment services. Through the NHS Right to Choose, we accept referrals from any GP in England.

Our pathway is NICE aligned, uses the latest science around autism assessments, and is powered by new software tools.

We report on service access and quality metrics back to our NHS commissioners, so you can be reassured this service is monitored.

Autism pathways

You can now refer children to the following pathways:

  • NEW! Fully remote (Devon ICB)* For children between 7 and 18. This includes 3 remote appointments.
  • NEW! Hybrid (Devon ICB), for children between 0 and 18. This includes 2 remote and one in-person appointment in Exeter, Devon.

* If a child has a diagnosed or suspected learning disability or speech and language condition or selective mutism, fully remote is not available and you can choose our hybrid pathway with in-person observation in Exeter.

How our service works

NHS GP referral

NHS GPs in England can fill in the online referral form. That's the quickest and safest way of making a referral. Parents will be informed when a referral is received and when they will be seen.

GPs in Norfolk & Waveney ICB should use their local referral form and send this to paloma.health@nhs.net.

Assessment

The assessment will be started as soon as we receive the referral. We follow NICE and NHS England guidelines, with two expert clinicians completing a two part assessment. Information is gathered from the school and parent or guardian, a parent interview and child observation is completed.

Outcome

The parent or guardian receives a clear, easy-to-understand outcome report and diagnosis (if applicable) for their child.

As an approved NHS partner, we will securely share that report with their NHS GP.
